Paris 16th arrondissement

This is a calm, mainly residential upper-class area with tourism being restricted mainly to Trocadero with its lovely views of the city and Arc de Triomphe in the north. Passy, just below Trocadero, attracts a young jet set population and has lively shopping streets.

Kleber, in the north, is mainly a business area where most law firms have their offices – and not much else happens. Victor Hugo, to the west, is much more exclusive, residential and much sought-after by French families.

Auteuil with its beautiful limestone buildings, small businesses, well-known schools, excellent transportation and it’s proximity to Bois de Boulogne maintains a true village atmosphere, whilst Porte de St Cloud with its ring road and Parc des Princes stadium can be noisy and rather lacking in character.

Properties

Properties in the northern area are very chic and though expensive, are still more affordable than in the centre of Paris for the same type of apartment. Apart from the areas of Auteuil, Jasmin and Passy, the 16th is very residential, with a quieter, family ambience and somewhat lacking in commerce.

Buildings in the north are a mixture of Haussmann and 1930’s styles, whilst the south has a more modest range of traditional and recent apartments. The bordering outer edge of the arrondissement is mainly post-1930s in style, with views of the park making apartments here very desirable indeed. Properties to the west are a favourite locale for the business community of La Defense, with proximity to Bois de Boulogne being a plus for families.
