Paris 5th arrondissement

The Latin Quarter is famous for the Sorbonne University, the Pantheon, its “bouquinistes” (traditional book stalls) along the Seine and its jazz clubs.

There is a maze of medieval pedestrian alleys around St Michel and rue Moufftard, as well as around the streets of Saint Jacques and Saint Germain. This area also has lovely green spaces, Jardin des Plantes and Jardin du Luxembourg, which provide a haven from the general liveliness in the area.

It has a village atmosphere with a mixture of students, professionals, commerce and tourists. With an overflow of restaurants, bars and bookshops, the 5th is ideal for anyone, families and individuals alike, wanting to be in the hub of things.

The beautiful Mosquee de Paris and the Institut du Monde Arabe, with their inspiring North African cultural influences, add a cosmopolitan touch to the area.

Properties

Apartments are generally older and, although highly sought-after, are not unaffordable.

More recent developments can be found in the quieter residential areas further south and towards the Jardin des Plantes.

Larger apartments can be found on the main arteries, and although apartments with a view of the Seine and Notre Dame are possible to find, they are scarce on the market.
